Stephen Nash was educated at Cambridge and Oxford universities and the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. He worked for the British Council in Iraq, and for the rest of his career served in HM Diplomatic Service.
After nine years in Latin America, he served in Thailand and subsequently, as Ambassador to Georgia, Albania and Latvia. He has taken part in numerous election observation missions in Europe and the United States under the auspices of the OSCE, and with the EU in South and Central America.
As a Director of MEC, his main focus is on Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Europe and the former Soviet Union.
